The fire that broke out Thursday at Wheat City Metals is out.
Regina Fire and Protective Services issued a media release Tuesday, saying it had “concluded operations” at the scrap operation north of the Evraz mill on Sunday at around 3 p.m.
“The fire was fully extinguished by removing the fire load,” the fire department said in the release. “This meant continuously pouring water while heavy equipment spread out the pile, enabling firefighters to reach the seat of the fire.”
The release added that the Rural Municipality of Sherwood will be handling the investigation into the fire.
Crews responded to the business on Pasqua Street North on Thursday at around 1 p.m., after the blaze at the scrap metal facility sent huge clouds of smoke into the sky.
On Friday, Deputy Chief Gord Hewitt said the fire could last for days.
“We’ve got crews out there right now working on it, spraying water on it, but we’ve also got members from Evraz trying to pull some of the debris pile away,” Hewitt told reporters. “As we continue to get more access into that pile to pull it away, we’ll have a better chance to fully extinguish the fire.”
