Frankie Hickson is back in green and white for the 2024 CFL season.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the 26-year-old rusher has signed a one-year contract extension.
In his 2022 rookie season, the Lynchburg, VA., product played in 13 games, rushing for 533 yards and a touchdown. He also added 17 catches for 109 yards and was named the team’s most outstanding rookie.
In 2023, the 200-pound rusher, 5’8″, only played in 10 games, rushing for 157 yards on 35 chances.
Prior to joining the Riders, Hickson spent five seasons at Liberty University (2015-19), playing in 47 games for the Flames. He had 610 carries for 2,898 yards and 30 touchdowns in his college career.
Hickson finished his career at Liberty as the program’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 4,494.
Riders add two Americans on defence
The Riders also announced a pair of new defenders will join the team for 2024.
American linebacker K.D. Davis and American defensive lineman Roman Lee Harrison have signed CFL contracts for the Green and White.
Davis, a 6’0″, 230-pound product of Ennis, Texas, played five seasons (2018-22) with the University of North Texas Mean Green. He made 428 career defensive tackles, which was the fifth-most in UNT history. He also added 32 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, one interception, four pass deflections, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries.
In his senior season, Davis was named the Conference USA (CUSA) Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-CUSA, CUSA Linebacker of the Year and a Fourth Team All-American.
Harrison played five seasons (2019-23) with the Tennessee Volunteers. The 6’2″, 235-pound defender registered 108 career defensive tackles, including 17 for a loss, eight sacks and 13 quarterback hurries.
The Bainbridge, Ga. product had his best statistical season in 2022, earning career highs in tackles (39), tackles for loss (seven), sacks (three) and quarterback hurries (five).
