The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added a piece to their offence and defence on Friday.
The CFL club announced former NFL wide receiver Geronimo Allison has signed a contract while National defensive lineman Charbel Dabire has signed a one-year extension.
Dabire played in all 18 games for the Riders in 2023, recording 13 defensive tackles and two sacks.
The six-foot-one, 290-pounder, who hails from Burkina Faso but moved to Canada when he was two, was taken by the team in the fifth round (44th overall) in the 2019 CFL Draft. He has played in 55 regular season games and three playoff games for the Riders, recording 37 defensive tackles and six sacks.
Dabire spent three seasons at Wagner College in New York, playing in 33 games and recording 73 tackles and two sacks.
Allison, a 29-year-old product of Tampa, Fla. comes to the Riders with six seasons of NFL experience.
Allison signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 NFL Draft. He suited up for 41 career games as a Packer, including 14 starts, over four seasons. his first career NFL reception was a four-yard touchdown from Aaron Rodgers.
In 2020, the 6’3″, 202-pound pass catcher signed with the Detroit Lions, suiting up for three games. He also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022.
Allison had 89 career NFL receptions for 1,045 yards, with an 11.7 yards per reception average, and six touchdowns.
Allison played two seasons at the University of Illinois (2014-15). He posted 106 career receptions for 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns.
This signings came a day after the team re-signed running back Frankie Hickson but released slotback Jake Wieneke.
Saskatchewan’s CFL regular season begins on June 8 against the Edmonton Elks.
