An outdoor rink with one of the best views in Regina is now open.
The Provincial Capital Commission (PCC) announced Wednesday the Rink on Wascana is open for a third season. The rink is located at the Legislative Landing in front of the Legislative Building in Wascana Park.
“We are pleased to announce the opening of the rink as this is one of Regina’s premier winter destinations,” Don McMorris, the minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission, said in a media release. “We encourage everyone to lace up and enjoy the season at the Rink on Wascana.”
The rink is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and admission is free. The facility features lighting, as well as warming and washroom facilities.
Operators do regular checks on the skating surface, including ice maintenance, snow removal and ice thickness testing.
“We are excited to open the Rink on Wascana for the season,” PCC executive director Jenna Schroeder said in the release. “We can’t wait to welcome visitors to the rink to make skating on Wascana Lake a part of their winter memories.”
The Rink on Wascana also will be part of the Wascana Centre Hub for Frost Regina, which is to begin Friday and run until Feb. 4.
The Wascana Centre Hub will feature activities like skating, laser tag, and horse and wagon rides. Free dogsled rides will be offered this Saturday and Sunday.
