The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Monday the signing of defensive back Nelson Lokombo to a one-year contract extension.
The former University of Saskatchewan Huskies star could have become a CFL free agent Feb. 13.
Lokombo, 24, is the 11th Roughriders player whose signing has been announced by the team this off-season. Saskatchewan has yet to announce anything on 18 other potential free agents, and has released one other.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Lokombo was selected by the Roughriders in the first round (second overall) of the 2021 CFL draft. He has played in 23 career regular-season games with five starts, and has recorded 18 defensive tackles, four special-teams stops and one forced fumble in his career.
With the Huskies in 2019, he won the Presidents’ Trophy as the top defensive player in U Sports football. He also was named Canada West’s most outstanding defensive player, a Canada West all-star and a first-team All-Canadian that season.
Later Monday, the Roughriders also announced the signing of American defensive back C.J. Coldon.
The 5-foot-10, 186-pounder played 24 games over five seasons at the University of Wyoming, recording 115 tackles, two interceptions, 16 pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and one sack.
Coldon transferred to Oklahoma for his final NCAA season and registered 42 tackles, four interceptions and six pass deflections in 12 games with the Sooners.
He signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL draft and spent part of the season on their practice roster.
