The Saskatchewan Roughriders are set to add to their defensive line, according to media reports.
3DownNation’s Justin Dunk, who is also The Green Zone’s CFL insider, is reporting the Riders have reached an agreement with defensive end Malik Carney.
Carney, 28, has spent his three-season CFL career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, with whom he recorded 13 sacks, including five in 17 games last season.
Prior to coming to the CFL, Carney spent time with the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos in 2019 and ’20.
Carney attended the University of North Carolina and played football with the Tar Heels. In 36 games, he had 176 tackles and 17 sacks.
This deal has been agreed to during the CFL negotiation window, which runs until Sunday. Any deals made in that seven-day period don’t become official until CFL free agency opens on Tuesday.
Carney is another defender who has reportedly agreed to deals with the Riders. Linebacker Jameer Thurman, defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper, and Canadian linebacker Adam Auclair appear set to join the Green and White.
On offence, the Riders have reportedly agreed to deals with running back A.J. Ouellette and offensive tackle Jermarcus Hardrick.
Dunk has also reported wide receiver Tevin Jones, who spent two seasons in Saskatchewan, has agreed to terms with the Montreal Alouettes.
The Riders still have 15 players who are set to become free agents on Tuesday.
