A Regina school was put into “secure the building” mode Tuesday after bear mace was sprayed inside the building.
Regina police didn’t identify the school, but said it was located in the 3300 block of Sixth Avenue in the North Central neighbourhood. That address corresponds to Scott Collegiate.
Police said the incident occurred at around 12:15 p.m. When officers arrived at the building, they were told a male youth had entered the school and got into an altercation with another male youth, who’s a student at the school.
“The altercation ended when the youth suspect sprayed bear mace at the student and then fled the location,” police said in a release. “The incident took place in a common area of the school. Numerous students and faculty were in the area, and were affected by the bear mace.”
The school was put into “secure the building” mode after the suspect ran off. School Resource Officers are leading the investigation into the incident, police said, while officers continue their search for the suspect.
Anyone with information was asked to call police at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
