The Saskatchewan Roughriders have dipped into the CFL’s free-agent pool again.
The Roughriders announced Friday they had signed 28-year-old offensive lineman Ryan Sceviour to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal weren’t announced.
The 6-foot-4, 311-pounder spent the previous five seasons with the Calgary Stampeders. The Stamps selected Sceviour in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2018 draft out of the University of Calgary.
Sceviour played 66 regular-season games for the Stampeders, including 18 at right guard in 2023. He was named a West Division all-star in 2022.
In Saskatchewan, Sceviour will be reunited with former Stamps coaches Marc Mueller and Corey Mace. Mueller is now the Roughriders’ offensive co-ordinator and Mace is the team’s new head coach.
Sceviour is the seventh CFL player the Roughriders have landed since the free-agent signing period began Tuesday. He joins linebackers Jameer Thurman and Jordan Herdman-Reed, offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick, tailback AJ Ouellette, defensive end Malik Carney and defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper.
Saskatchewan went into the off-season with 30 players who were eligible to become free agents. The Roughriders re-signed 16 of those players and released one.
Seven players — fullback Albert Awachie (Toronto Argonauts), quarterback Jake Dolegala (B.C. Lions), offensive lineman Evan Johnson (Hamilton Tiger-Cats), receiver Tevin Jones (Montreal Alouettes), offensive lineman Eric Lofton (Winnipeg Blue Bombers), defensive end Pete Robertson (B.C.) and linebacker Micah Teitz (Calgary) — have signed with other teams.
Six players — receiver Juwan Brescacin, defensive lineman DeMarcus Christmas, defensive back Jeremy Clark, linebacker Larry Dean, offensive lineman Colin Kelly and running back Jamal Morrow — remained unsigned as of Friday afternoon.
