Yellow police tape surrounds a home in Davidson following a tragic house fire over the Family Day long weekend.
Craik RCMP say five people are dead after a house went up in flames in Davidson on Sunday.
According to RCMP, members of the Davidson Fire Department were already on the scene trying to put out the fire where people were inside the home.
During their rescue attempts, they were able to remove an 80-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman. They were both transported to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Once the fire was extinguished, crews found the remains of three children inside the home.
The fire happened on Ottawa Street just after 12:30 p.m.
Trudy Smith lives nearby and knows the family of the three children who died.
“It’s a tragedy for our whole town – the school and the people,” she told 650 CKOM on Monday.
Another Davidson resident, Pat Kenny, was walking her dog on Sunday afternoon when she saw the home on fire.
“I’m very, very upset – I can hardly fathom it …We knew people who they played with, went to school with, and it’s just so tragic.”
Autopsies for all five people are scheduled to take place in Saskatoon this week.
Mounties tell 650 CKOM they remained at the scene overnight and that their investigation into the fire continues.
