The son of a couple who died in a house fire in Davidson on Sunday says the tragedy serves as a reminder to ensure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are installed and checked regularly.
“It has taken me a few days to process this news, and I continue to work through many emotions,” Darren Woodcock said in an email to 650 CKOM.
Crews pulled his parents from the burning house in the early afternoon, but they were later pronounced dead in hospital. Once the fire was extinguished, the volunteer firefighters found the remains of three children inside the home.
While Woodcock acknowledges there are more assessments and tests needed to confirm the cause of death, he says he believes CO was a factor.
The fire has since been deemed non-suspicious by police. In a statement to 650 CKOM, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency said the cause is still under investigation.
“Once the SPSA finalizes a fire investigation report, the report and its findings are provided to the RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service,” the agency said.
The SPSA did not say when that report would be complete or if it would be made public.
