Rachel Homan is one win away from her fourth Scotties Tournament of Hearts title.
The Ontario skip stole two in the extra end Saturday night to beat Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones 6-4 in the 1-2 Page playoff game at the Canadian women’s curling championship in Calgary.
The victory put Homan into Sunday night’s final while Jones fell into Sunday afternoon’s semifinal against Manitoba’s Kate Cameron.
Cameron advanced with a 6-4 win over Alberta’s Selena Sturmay in the 3-4 Page playoff game Saturday afternoon. It was the fourth straight win for the Winnipeg skip.
In the 1-2 game, Homan led 3-1 after four ends before Jones scored one in the fifth. Jones stole one in the sixth to tie the game and, after a blank in the seventh, the six-time Canadian champion stole another single in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead.
Homan blanked the ninth and then scored one in the 10th to knot the score. Jones had a chance to win in the extra end, but her attempted raise takeout slid by a Homan rock in the four-foot and the Ontario team had the victory.
Cameron, meanwhile, is on a roll.
Her Winnipeg team needed wins in its last two round-robin games just to make the playoffs. The Cameron foursome earned both of those victories to finish third in Pool B with a 5-3 record.
In Cameron’s first playoff game Friday evening, she took down Team Canada’s Kerri Einarson 9-4, eliminating the four-time defending champion from the event. Then on Saturday afternoon, Cameron’s squad took out Sturmay.
The winner of the Jones-Cameron contest will face Homan in Sunday evening’s final. The Scotties champion is to represent Canada at the women’s world championship, March 16-24 in Sydney, N.S.
