A white pail — not a red or yellow rock — sat in front of the house on Sheet B at the Brandt Centre during Tuesday morning’s draw at the Montana’s Brier.
Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) confirmed in an emailed statement that a drip onto the playing surface had been detected, causing an 18-minute delay in the contest between Yukon and Newfoundland and Labrador.
“REAL determined that a combination of interior building temp, combined with the cold outside air, was causing the development of condensation on a protruding apparatus connected to a roof antenna,” the statement said. “The condensation thawed, and developed a small drip on to the ice surface below.
“The issue was rectified by adjusting the pipe position, and redirecting the accumulation of water to a collection point.”

REAL said it was in constant communication with the ice-making team at the Canadian men’s curling championship to ensure that the Brandt Centre’s “temperatures and configurations” would give the players the best playing conditions possible.
The delay occurred with Newfoundland and Labrador’s Andrew Symonds leading Yukon’s Thomas Scoffin 4-2 in the ninth end of their contest. Symonds went on to win 6-5 in an extra end.
