Drivers in Regina will be facing delays along Ring Road in the coming months.
The City of Regina said Monday that drivers should expect closures, lane restrictions and speed reductions along sections of Ring Road between Pasqua Street North and Ross Avenue starting Wednesday as the city continues its work on the water network.
“The first significant traffic impact starts on March 20,” the city said in a release. “It includes a speed restriction for about two weeks on Ring Road between McDonald Street and Ross Avenue.
“The city will advise of additional traffic restrictions as work progresses. Watch for signs and use caution.”
According to the city, the speed on Ring Road could be reduced to 60 kilometres per hour in some sections, and eastbound traffic could be reduced to one lane while work happens adjacent to the roadway.
Work is to run between March and November, the city added.
This month, the on-ramp at Argyle Street is to be closed for around two weeks to let workers auger bore steel pipe casing under Argyle Street. Then, in June, that on-ramp is to be closed for around four weeks as crews install the new water supply main and pave the asphalt on-ramp.
This is the second year of a three-year, $167-million construction project to expand the city’s water network. The project is to include the construction of a new water pumping station, storage reservoirs and an 8.4-kilometre water supply main.
“The Water Network Expansion Project is a major project that enables the city to continue meeting the water pressure and storage needs of both current and future residents while also providing a long-term solution to support growth,” the release said.
“This project will also contribute to Regina’s vibrant community by planting additional trees and upgrading the lights on Ring Road.”
