Spring is a season of rejuvenation, but it’s also the season when our roads are in the worst shape.
CAA launched its annual Worst Roads Campaign on Tuesday, with the goal of finding the worst stretch of road or highway in Saskatchewan. It’s no small task, as the province boasts more than 250,000 kilometres of roadways, more than any other province.
Anyone can nominate a road and vote for the worst offenders on CAA’s website. People can vote once per day, and the top 10 worst roads will be unveiled on April 30.
This year, CAA will also give away a $1,000 Shell gift card to a random voter.
The title of worst road in 2023 went to Highway 44 at Eston. Highway 30 at Eston was awarded second place. The third-worst road was awarded to Coteau Street West in Moose Jaw.
Potholes were the primary issue on nine of the top 10 worst roads selected during last year’s campaign.
While the campaign is all in good fun, the ultimate goal is to bring attention to some of the worst-maintained roadways in the province and help spur action.
“The top 10 worst roads for 2024 will be shared with stakeholders including government and business leaders in hopes of sparking conversation and action,” CAA noted in a statement.
