The Regina Farmers’ Market will be in a new location on Saturdays starting next month.
The market is relocating its Saturday market from Pat Fiacco Plaza downtown, where it has been since 2011, to Confederation Park in the city’s REAL District. The markets at the new location will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May 4 through Oct. 12.
“The decision to relocate was not an easy one, and stems from space constraints caused by the ongoing construction downtown,” the market’s organizers said in a statement.
“With more than 80 vendors attending our Saturday farmers’ markets during peak season, the logistical challenge of managing vendor space, customer flow, and plaza accessibility all while maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment became unfeasible.”
While final details are still being worked out, the market’s organizers said the new space will offer a high level of accessibility, ample parking, washroom access, and a power supply for vendors.
The Wednesday markets, which start on May 8 and run through Oct. 9, will also be relocated, but customers won’t have to go very far.
“The smaller Wednesday farmers’ markets will shift slightly to the 1900 block of Scarth Street and the southeast side of Pat Fiacco Plaza, to ensure that the Plaza can remain open to traffic,” the statement said.
While construction was the main factor in the decision to relocate, the market noted that it supports the major renewal project in the area and thanked the City of Regina for its support.
“The construction, which will see 11th Avenue closed this summer from Hamilton to Lorne, is a much-needed and welcome improvement to Regina’s downtown,” the market’s statement read.
