Helicopter air ambulance service STARS is celebrating after a radiothon brought in almost a half-million dollars to support its operations in Saskatchewan.
The annual Critical Care on the Air Radiothon was heard on 40 stations across Saskatchewan. The two-day event shared stories from flight crew members and patients like Ryan Straschnitzki, whose life was saved when he was airlifted to hospital by STARS after the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in 2018.
Donations to this year’s radiothon brought in $433,548.

Katherine Emberly, the organization’s president and CEO, said everyone at STARS is extremely grateful for the support.
“Thanks to you we will continue to explore industry leading innovations, provide the highest quality critical care, and deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients,” Emberly said in a statement.
STARS said all the funds will directly support its operations in Saskatchewan “and pursuing emerging innovations that will help shape the future of critical care.”
