A large fire north of Regina caused smoky skies on Sunday afternoon.
Pictures shared on social media show a charred black landscape near the Regina Beach landfill.
The fire broke out in a rural area Sunday before making its way toward the town’s landfill, prompting the closure of some local roads.
Several fire departments and volunteers from surrounding communities stepped up to help battle the blaze.
Due to the flames and heavy smoke in the area, some local road closures were put in place. The Saskatchewan Highway Hotline has lifted its incident warning for Highway 54, which was issued Sunday afternoon due to the fire and heavy smoke.
Several people took to social media to commend the efforts of volunteers who assisted in combatting the fire.
One Facebook user expressed gratitude that the fire was successfully contained, keeping both homes and animals out of harm’s way.
