According to an online fundraiser, the Regina police officer who was shot and wounded in a friendly fire incident on Friday is in serious condition and will require surgery.
According to police, the officers were serving a warrant on Retallack Street just after midnight on Friday, and during the search one officer discharged a firearm, striking another officer. Police described the shooting as accidental.
“This officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital,” police said, adding that no civilians were injured.
While police didn’t name the wounded officer or provide details on his injuries, an online fundraiser identified him as Sam Kosolofski.
According to Jeff Crowley, who organized the GoFundMe to help out Kosolofski’s family, the officer suffered serious injuries and will require surgery. Crowley said the Kosolofski has a long road to recovery ahead, with no time frame for when he might be able to resume work.

“He has two beautiful sons Ezekiel and Luka, and loving wife Theresa,” Crowley wrote.
“During this time, we are fundraising to help raise money for this young family so both Sam and Theresa can focus on recovery without having the stress of day to day expenses and any other unexpected costs that may arise during this time.”
As of Monday morning, the fundraiser had already generated $31,223, surpassing its initial goal of $25,000.
The shooting is under investigation by the police service’s Major Crimes Unit. The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, a police oversight agency, is also monitoring that investigation.
