The Regina Police Service’s Aerial Support Unit, which usually circles the city on a daily basis, will be keeping its wheels on the ground for the time being.
The service confirmed the police plane – a Cessna 182-T model – was damaged last week when it was being taken in for regular maintenance.
As of Monday, the damage was still being assessed and the plane is expected to be out of commission for several weeks while it’s inspected and fixed.
“Obviously this is disappointing, as the plane has become a very valuable tool in the work we do to keep our city and our officers safe,” Les Parker, spokesperson for the Regina Police Service, said in a statement.
The officers who would normally work in the Aerial Support Unit have been redeployed to other units in the meantime.
