Some Saskatchewan pockets are a little heavier after the Regina Hospital Home Lottery announced its spring winners on Friday.
Whether they walked away with the $1.4 million show home or a new car, all the winners had smiles on their faces and stories to tell.
Delwyn Jansen, a farmer who lives a short drive from Humboldt, has won $50,000 and is the new owner of the $1.4 million grand prize show home.
He said when he initially got the call, he didn’t believe it.
“Well, when I first heard, I thought that somebody was scamming me with something, but when my friend phoned me and it was on TV, I knew this had to be it, so then I started believing people,” said Jansen.
He said for now he has no plans to move from his farm to stay in his new home.
The second biggest win from the spring draw was from Dana and Don Soloninko, who won the 50/50 and walked away with $559,187. They said that they plan to save the money in case they need it down the road.
Gaylene Drew from Regina won the early bird prize. When faced with a decision between a 6-week, seven-river cruise through 14 countries or taking $100,000 cash, Drew took the cash.
She said that when she found out she had won, there were a lot of emotions to process.
“Very excited, absolutely overjoyed, surprised, unbelievable for a while, but it was great; it’s a lottery I’ve always liked to support with not many big expectations but always hopeful to win,” said Drew.
Clarence and Margaret Delainey of Regina haven’t decided yet whether they’d like a 2024 Audi Q3 45 TFSI Komfort or if they’d rather walk away with about $50,000 cash. Margaret said that they’ll need more time before they make a decision.
She said that if they take the cash, they’ll put the money towards a hybrid and go on a road trip.
All the money collected from the lottery goes towards supporting health care in Regina’s three hospitals and continues to enhance medical programs in the province.
