Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after a Swift Current woman died following a wellness check by RCMP.
According to police, officers from the Swift Current RCMP detachment were called to an address on South Service Road at around 11 a.m. on Sunday to perform a wellness check. According to police, the woman was in need of medical assistance when the officers arrived.

“Officers responded immediately and located an adult female, whom they determined required medical care. She was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“EMS was engaged to transport her to the hospital for medical care. On the way to the hospital, the female went into medical distress. She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.”

No details about the woman’s identity or the manner of her death were shared. Earlier in the day, the RCMP had asked the public to avoid the area.
Her family has been notified of the death, the Mounties added.
The death will be investigated by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, as the woman died while she was in police custody.
The RCMP said the oversight team will look into the circumstances of the woman’s death, along with her interactions with police.
