A man is dead after being hit by a car on Monday afternoon.
Regina police say they were dispatched to North Central around 2:25 p.m. after receiving reports of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian. According to a media release, the man succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead when he was located by EMS and police.
Police blocked off the intersection of Robinson Street and 7th Avenue.
A black SUV could be seen parked on the curb at the intersection with its airbags deployed and a dent on the driver-side door.
Regina Police Service said the vehicle involved remained on scene. They also say that the occupants are in custody.
The crash happened in a school zone, near Albert Community School.
A person who lived nearby was heading out of her front door when she heard a long screech. She got out and saw the black car land swerve onto the curb. She said the pedestrian seemed limp before first responders had arrived on-scene.
“This one really kind of got me. I just caught myself off guard and I was just kind of like, almost crying for them,” said the woman who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“It offset the whole afternoon and how should I be ever to complain when someone just died innocently? That’s horrible.”
The woman said it was a very emotional day.
Several onlookers stopped by through to see the aftermath of the crash.
“It’s a tragic day for someone and that’s really sad,” she said.
“If I had to say anything at all, it’s a really tragic day for a totally innocent person. I among probably others, wish that you could just roll this back a few hours. It’s a horrible day.”
As police investigate, no charges have been laid as of yet.
