A well-known Saskatchewan sportscaster has passed away.
TSN announced the passing of Darren Dutchyshen on Thursday morning. He was 57.
Dutchyshen, a well-known broadcaster on the network’s SportsCentre, was born in Regina in 1966 and grew up in Porcupine Plain.
After graduating from a broadcasting college in Saskatoon, he began his career in the province before moving to Manitoba and later Alberta. He joined TSN in 1995.
My story of Dutchy is this: I interned at TSN Sportscentre in 2002. There was no question who the energy was in the building. It was Dutch. He laughed at stories, he roared at bloopers. Hosts/producers had to tell him to quiet down every so often! He was INCREDIBLE to be around.

In 2021, Dutchyshen announced he had prostate cancer.
In a TSN obituary, Stewart Johnston, Bell Media’s senior vice president of sales and sports, called Dutchyshen “a legend of Canadian sports broadcasting, a great teammate, and an essential part of TSN for the last three decades.”
According to his family, he passed away surrounded by his closest loved ones.
