A normal speeding violation on Highway No.40 left a police officer in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The incident happened while a Saskatchewan RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) officer was patrolling on May 30, 2024.
The officer conducted a traffic stop just outside of Neilburg, SK when the vehicle did not stop. Instead, in the middle of the highway it halted, reversed and struck the police vehicle. Then, the vehicle hit the police cruiser head on twice by driving forward, turning around and ramming into it.
The suspect vehicle was disabled by a passing civilian motorist who rammed it, preventing further harm to the police vehicle.
Next, a male and female from the suspect vehicle fled on foot into a wooded area.
Efforts from a multitude of Saskatchewan RCMP resources came together, including the Cut Knife, Maidstone and Unity detachments. The Saskatchewan and Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services and the Remote Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) were used.
In the wooded area, an adult female was arrested. The male suspect is still at large.
The investigation is still ongoing and investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the male suspect.
He is described as appearing in his mid-30s to 40s, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing between 180 to 190 pounds with black hair. He was last seen wearing a blue or black t-shirt, a dark-coloured ball cap, blue jeans, white running shoes and a grey or black medical mask or bandanna.
