The Hospitals of Regina Foundation is apologizing for remarks made by a well-known actor and comedian during a fundraiser.
Rob Schneider made comments many considered offensive while on stage at the Four Seasons Ball in Regina on Saturday.
Some who attended the event said Schneider’s comedy set included opinions they felt were misogynistic, transphobic, and opposed to COVID-19 policies.
Schneider, 60, is well known for his roles in comedy shows and films, including ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ‘Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo,’ and his numerous collaborations with Adam Sandler, including ’50 First Dates,’ ‘The Waterboy’ and ‘Little Nicky.’
In a statement, the foundation said it doesn’t “condone, accept, endorse or share” the positions Schneider expressed at the fundraiser event.
“While we recognize that in a free and democratic society, individuals are entitled to their views and opinions and that comedy is intended to be edgy, the content, positions, and opinions expressed during Mr. Schneider’s set do not align with the values of our Foundation and team,” the foundation added.
Schneider was asked to leave the stage early at the fundraiser.
“He agreed and immediately left the stage,” the Hospitals of Regina Foundation noted.
An unconditional apology was also offered to those in attendance immediately after Schneider’s departure.
“We reiterate this sincere and unconditional apology today for any offense caused by Mr. Schneider’s recent comedy set at the Four Seasons Ball.”
