Bikes, helmets and locks for kids are being collected this weekend for for Rock 102 Bikes for Kids.
People can drop new or used gear for the Saskatoon children through Care & Share and other charitable groups at Canadian Tire in Preston Crossing or Confederation Mall today between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The fundraiser believes every kid deserves the chance to experience the freedom a bicycle can give.
Founder of Rides by Marv’s, Marv Friesen said “So many of us take for granted the ability to hop on our bikes, get a bit of exercise [and] have some fun.” He explained many families cannot provide bikes for their children. “Seeing these kids hop on their bikes, sometimes for the first time ever, is one of the best feelings in the world! It’s what keeps us doing this each year. We couldn’t do this without support from the community, and that’s why [their] help is so important to our cause.”
Cash donations are accepted and help them purchase new bikes and parts for repairs.
Rock 102 Bikes for Kids started in 2007. Since it began, the program has collected over 2,200 bikes.
