Regina Fire used its ladder truck to extinguish a vehicle fire on top of a downtown building early on Saturday.
In a social media post, the fire department said it was called to a commercial business fire on the 2100 block of Broad Street around 8:24 a.m. On top of the building’s parkade, crews found two vehicles on fire.
“The vehicles certainly were extensively damaged,” said Deputy Chief Dustin McCullough. “To my understanding, there’s no damage to the structure or building at all.”
No injuries were reported.
“It didn’t impact Centre Pointe Plaza, and no one had to be evacuated or anything like that,” he said.
Regina Fire have no update on what caused the fire but are investigating.
McCullough said the crew used its ladder truck to battle the blaze.
“It’s one of those challenging fires for us as access to the top of the parkade is limited,” he explained. “We can’t respond with our firetrucks into the parkade. So the crew that arrived made a decision to put the ladder truck up and get water on that fire as soon as possible to limit any further damage. I think it was obviously the right decision because it did extinguish the fire quickly.”
Crews originally dispatched to a commercial fire on the 2100 Blk of Broad. On arrival discovered two vehicles burning on the roof of the parkade. Fire was quickly extinguished by the ladder truck. No injuries and no extension into the structure. Fire is under investigation. #yqr pic.twitter.com/7sGbS8oE8S

Amanda Parsons said she saw smoke coming from the Centre Point Plaza Apartment Homes while she was driving down Broad Street.
“You can see the smoke quite high, it does appear to be quite a bit of it,” she said.

She said she saw fire crews ladders leading up to the lower point of the building.
“It definitely smells like burnt debris,” she said.
Parsons said she could not tell how bad the damage may be.
“I can’t see any damage towards the front of the building but it looks like the damage might be coming towards the back of the building.”
