The Saskatchewan Roughriders have started the season with back-to-back road victories.
After a disappointing end to last year’s season, Rider fans are excited to see their team back in the win column.
“I’m happy with (their performance),” said Rider fan Rob Stephanson.
“I think they’ve probably been a little bit fortunate, but still better to be fortunate and win than lose.”
The Riders were down heading into halftime for both games, and they managed to claw their way back for the win.
In week one against Edmonton, they were down ten to start the fourth quarter. A pair of touchdowns from Shawn Bane Jr. led the comeback in a 29-21 Rider victory.
Last week, the Green and White were in Hamilton, where they again found themselves down by ten heading into the fourth quarter. This time, a late interception by C.J. Avery set up a game-winning field goal from Brett Lauther.
Rider fan Michael Brown seemed to be even more pleased with the results so far.
“New coach, new look, 2-0… Come from behind in two games; it’s pretty incredible,” said Brown.
Despite starting the season off 2-0, fans said there’s room for improvement.
“There’s still a little concern with the penalties,” said Stephanson. “That’s something from the last couple of years they need to fix.”
Brown shared Stephanson’s sentiments on penalties.
“Hopefully (Head Coach Corey Mace) has an influence on discipline,” said Brown.
In two games, the Riders have been penalized for over 150 yards, including a 25-yard game disqualification penalty from offensive lineman Logan Ferland.
Both Stephanson and Brown are excited for the Riders home opener.
Stephanson said he would be cheering them on from home, while Brown said he was going to buy a new jersey.
The Riders have their first game in Mosaic Stadium Sunday at 5 p.m. in a rematch of last week against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
