Mounties seize two kilos of meth during traffic stop near Meadow Lake

RCMP officers uncovered a huge stash of illegal drugs during a traffic stop near Meadow Lake last weekend.

According to the RCMP, officers from the Green Lake detachment stopped a vehicle on Highway 55, east of Meadow Lake, on Sunday evening.

“As a result of investigation, during the traffic stop officers located and seized approximately two kilograms of methamphetamine, approximately 34 grams of cocaine, approximately 26 grams of fentanyl/MDMA, drug trafficking paraphernalia, an imitation handgun, a lighter that resembled a handgun, and a sum of cash,” the Mounties said in a statement.

A 35-year-old man from Pinehouse Lake is now facing criminal charges including possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, carrying a concealed weapon, and possessing a weapon in violation of an order. He made his first court appearance on Monday in Meadow Lake.

Cpl. Paul Loder with the Green Lake RCMP said the “significant drug seizure” removed as many as 20,000 doses of methamphetamine from the black market in the area.

“We also seized two imitation firearms – one was a lighter and the other looked and felt remarkably similar to a real handgun,” Loder explained in a statement.

“In all, the sharp observation skills of our officer resulted in some dangerous substances and objects being taken off the streets.”
