Fun, free events are happening in Wascana Park on Monday to mark Canada’s 157th birthday.
“Regina Canada Day starts with a pancake breakfast at 8:30 (a.m.),” said Brice Perkins, a member of the Regina Canada Day’s planning committee. “Events continue all day … Fireworks will start around 10:30 (p.m.).”
Perkins said events will include craft exhibitors, a family fun zone, teepee teachings, other cultural events and much more.
“(There’s) some really fun activities for kids to enjoy, such as firetrucks and the police car. Just a really fun family centre,” said Perkins. “We have the Apex Adventure Zone, so a nice little blow-up jungle gym for the kids.”
According to the Regina Police Service, there will be a Lost Children’s tent near the Main Stage off Legislative Drive.
“The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be down from ten to three with Gainer the Gopher, the cheer team, the pep band. And also, starting at one o’clock in Riderville, your favourite players will be signing autographs,” said Perkins.

Other events include the beer gardens starting at noon and the strongman competition at one, as well a variety of food trucks will be on location.
The main stage, located in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, will host the opening ceremonies, starting at noon. There will then be various performances, including Sour Jack, Power Moon God, Ragged Edge, Tilted Kits, and Wonderland. The Canadian band 54-40 headlines at 8:30 p.m.
There will be a fireworks show starting at 10:30 p.m.
“The fireworks are gonna be bigger and better than ever. We’ve invested a lot more into the fireworks, so you can expect to see bigger shells lighting up the Queen City skies,” said Perkins.
The Regina Police Service released a statement cautioning people Albert Street between College Avenue and Regina Avenue will be closed starting at 9:00 p.m.
“The Regina Police remind drivers not to park illegally or stop on the road to watch the fireworks, especially on the Highway 1 bypass between Assiniboine Avenue and Wascana Parkway, and on Broad Street between College Avenue and Lakeshore Drive.”
“We are so lucky in Regina to have such a diverse cultural community and to be such a close-knit community. Canada Day really celebrates that by being able to have everyone in the city come down for one and just be proud of being Canadian,” said Perkins. “It’s just a really good day to be proud to be Canadian and also be proud to be from the Queen City.”
