The WestJet cancellations are causing a major headache for Canadians across the country.
James Bogusz, President and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority said YQR hasn’t been greatly impacted by the strikes yet.
“At a local level we’ve only so far seen limited impacts,” he said. “We have two cancellations on the board and I believe there was one this morning.”
While only three flights have currently been impacted, Bogusz said there could be more.
“Although at the moment we not seeing a lot yet at YQR, WestJet is warning of course of more potential cancellations and challenges over the weekend,” he said. “It just depends how this all goes.”
There is no way to predict how long the strike could last and flights it could impact.
Bogusz said it’s important for passengers to be informed. He encourages all passengers to sign up for notifications from WestJet via email or text.
“Please make sure you sign up directly with WestJet for those automatic notifications if you’re travelling and keep an eye on their social feeds like X and Facebook,” he said.
“WestJet is very good about at least notifying folks. The real challenge though is if you’re travelling you want to know about your particular flight and that’s why it’s so important to sign up for that information.”
According to Bogusz, if your flight is cancelled, you need to contact WestJet for further instruction.
“We make sure that our terminal building is ready for customers and passengers and it can be awfully frustrating,” he said. “It’s either calling that phone number which is going to be incredibly busy or seeing an agent in the terminal building to see what they can do for you.”
