Regina’s city council is hoping it can make headway on a huge backlog of items still on its plate at a meeting next week.
City hall confirmed Wednesday that a special meeting of council has been called for Tuesday at 9 a.m. The agenda includes several items tabled from the June 26 council meeting.
According to the city, those items include:
- Debt capacity and financing of unfunded capital projects;
- The central library renewal project debt financing report (including the related tabled delegations and communications);
- The Saskatchewan Drive corridor plan (including the related tabled delegations and communications);
- Development charges policy and model review;
- Potential allocation investment income to reserves;
- Capital project and reserve funding; and
- Quarterly financial statements preparation
The full agenda will be posted on the city’s website Friday afternoon.
No reason was given for why the special meeting is being called, but it has been no secret that council has been struggling lately to keep up with a large number of items that have lately piled up.

The result has seen several recent meetings lasting well into the night. The meeting on June 26 went on until 10 p.m., even with numerous items being tabled. In the end, that meeting was adjourned only after several council members went home, causing the meeting to lose quorum.
Council only has four more regularly scheduled council meetings left in the current term, with the next full council meeting slated for July 17.
