Performers at Country Thunder will be coming in hot this week.
The City of Regina officially proclaimed the week of July 10-16, 2024, as Country Thunder Saskatchewan Week.
Mayor Sandra Masters handed over the official proclamation to President of Country Thunder, Troy Vollhoffer, at Regina City Hall, on Monday.
The festival begins on Thursday, with Luke Combs, Dallas Smith, and Nickleback headlining the show.
The festival has been held at the site of the Craven Valley since 1983. Vollhoffer said every year the music festival expects to host between 23,000 to 30,000 fans, and 6,000 campers.
At some point during this years festival, Country Thunder is expected to welcome in its 1 millionth attendee.
Environment Canada has forecasted a week of toasty temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius.
Vollhoffer said the festival will have the best first aid there is to offer, with a triage centre staffed with paramedics and ambulances.
“We have had that warm weather before, and there’s never been a real problem with it,” he said.
Vollhoffer said four water trucks will move throughout the campgrounds.
“I would just suggest to enjoy it, and get you’re suntan on,” he said.
Mayor Sandra Masters said the festival is a big economic driver for Regina, bringing in $3 million annually.
Masters acknowledged that Country Thunder is a good opportunity for Saskatchewan artists to showcase their talent.
“That incubation of music, and performance, and recording, is massively important for those folks who are chasing those dreams,” she said.
Weyburn born artist Tenille Arts will hit the stage on Friday.
