Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has been notified after a man died while in police custody.
On July 31, around 6:30 p.m., Ponteix RCMP were called to assist Emergency Medical Services with a man who needed medical attention in Ponteix, Sask.
An RCMP officer responded immediately and found the man who needed help.
The man was taken into custody under the Mental Health Services Act for the officer to provide first aid.
The man went into medical distress and officers removed the man from policy custody to provide further help.
EMS arrived and took over medical care of the man. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
