A 44-year-old man was arrested and police are searching for a second suspect after a gunshot was allegedly fired during an RCMP traffic stop on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation.
According to the Mounties, officers were alerted to a vehicle driving at high speed on the First Nation northwest of Prince Albert just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police tracked down the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver took off. The driver fled from a second attempted stop, the RCMP said, but the chase came to an end soon after when the vehicle stopped due to mechanical issues.

While the vehicle was stopped, the RCMP said someone inside fired a gun, shattering a window. Two people in the vehicle then took off running.
“Officers located and seized an illegally modified-firearm from the vehicle,” the RCMP said in a statement.
With help from an aerial drone, additional officers and police dogs, the Mounties tracked down one of the vehicle’s two occupants, a 44-year-old from the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. He’s facing a long list of charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, flight from police, resisting arrest, and several gun charges.
“Officers did not locate the second occupant and continue working to locate him,” the RCMP noted. “The suspect is described as a male with short black hair, approximately 5’8” and 140 lbs.”
Anyone with information that could help the investigation was asked to contact the Prince Albert RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
