Town of Kindersley to pay $175,000 after 2022 worker death

The Town of Kindersley has been ordered to pay $175,000 after pleading guilty to an occupational health and safety violation connected to the death of a worker in 2022.
According to the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, a worker was fatally injured on August 30, 2022, when entering a sewer manhole.
The town pleaded guilty to one violation of the provincial regulations, which requires employers to “take all practicable steps” to prevent workers from exposure to hazardous chemical or biological substances.
Four other charges were withdrawn.
A Kindersley Provincial Court judge imposed a fine of $125,000, along with a surcharge of $50,000, on Aug. 13.
