Flames forever changed a small community in west central Saskatchewan Tuesday.
The village of Wiseton, located west of Dinsmore, lost two fixtures on its main street after fire burned a hotel and a building next door which served as the village office and post office.
Kim Beattie, who worked in the post office, told 650 CKOM the fire spread so fast she only had time to grab her bag and get out.
“Thankful to our firefighters. Thankful for all of our amazing farmers from far and wide that dropped what they were doing, jumped off combines, and showed up with their water trucks without even a second thought, ” Beattie wrote on Facebook.
“Small towns are amazing, but this was a big hit to our little Wiseton. Not sure if it will ever be the same.”
Fighting the blaze took a toll on the community’s water supply. The village said residents can expect water disruptions and a boil water advisory is in effect until further notice. No word yet on how the fire started.
