The Saskatchewan RCMP is investigating the suspicious death of a man at Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation on Saturday.
RCMP said in a news release that around 2:20 a.m. on Sept. 14, officers from the Rosthern detachment responded to a report of a weapons incident at a home on the Cree Nation.
Police said a firearm was discharged inside the home, resulting in a 28-year-old man being injured. Paramedics were called but the man then died. Police did not say if the man’s family had been notified of his death.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s major crimes unit is investigating with the assistance of RCMP from Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Rosthern. RCMP’s forensic identification section and Saskatchewan Coroners Service are also investigating.
Police said there was no increased risk to public safety”at this time” and that more information will be provided when possible.
Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation is one of the largest First Nations in Saskatchewan, located west of Duck Lake.
