Carmichael Outreach will be funded once again to provide a warming space in Regina this winter.
The City of Regina said in a news release on Sept. 21 that it had allocated $100,000 in support of the city’s cold weather strategy that will be used alongside a one-time $300,000 grant from Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Social Services to make the warming space available no later than Nov. 1.
The funds will allow Carmichael to operate an 80-person overnight warming space, offering a safe space for people to escape extreme weather.

The warming centre will be upstairs at Carmichael on 12th Avenue and will be a place for people to stay warm and use the washroom. There will be food and coffee available, but it won’t be all the services the charity provides during the day.
Carmichael Outreach was also funded to provide a warming space in January 2024. The charity has a vision to end poverty and homelessness.
The cold weather strategy is designed to work with existing services to support situational awareness and coordinate efforts among human service sectors and community-based organizations to ensure that unsheltered individuals and other populations in vulnerable contexts have access to warming spaces and services during the winter months.
The city said information on all Regina warming spaces would be available on its website in October.
