Drivers in Regina and surrounding areas will be targeted in a traffic blitz this week.
Regina Police Service gave advance notice of the traffic blitz on Monday, saying police from around the province would be assisting “at various locations in and around Regina” on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Impaired driving will be a top priority at the stops, police said, but officers are also looking for offences like speeding, distracted driving, and not wearing a seatbelt. Patrols would also be looking for unlicensed drivers and checking commercial vehicle standards.
The blitz is part of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), a multi-agency taskforce dedicated to improving traffic safety that includes municipal police agencies, RCMP, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Police, and representatives from the Ministries of Justice and Finance.
