Police from across the province descended on Regina for two days last week during the annual Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, which aims to improve traffic enforcement and education in Saskatchewan’s cities.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, officers from a number of police services operating across the province joined Regina Police Service officers to conduct traffic stop checks primarily focused on speeding, unregistered vehicles, improper use of car seats, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations.

According to police, 237 written warnings were handed out during the two-day traffic blitz. Two people were arrested on warrants, six drivers received an administrative suspension for impaired driving, and eight vehicles were impounded.
Over the two days, police also handed out:
- 233 tickets for speeding;
- 29 tickets related to vehicle equipment regulations;
- 16 tickets for cell phone violations;
- 15 tickets for unregistered vehicles;
- Eight tickets for suspended drivers or drivers with an invalid licence;
- Eight tickets for failing to slow when passing emergency vehicles;
- Three tickets related to tobacco trafficking; and
- Two tickets for dangerous driving or evading police.
The traffic blitz also saw 47 commercial vehicle inspections performed, with 16 taken out of service.
“On behalf of all our partners, the Regina Police Service would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience and co-operation in keeping our community safe,” the city police service said in a statement.
