Million-dollar donation a big boost for breast cancer screening campaign

A $1 million donation will bring state-of-the-art mammography machines to breast cancer screening sites in Regina and Saskatoon.

According to Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, the donation from PTI Transformers to the foundation’s Saskatchewan Breast Screening Campaign means better early detection and diagnosis of cancer, which will improve treatment outcomes and help save the lives of patients around the province.

“This donation will help save lives by giving women in our province access to the most advanced breast cancer screening tools available,” Nora Yeates, the foundation’s CEO, said in a statement.

“PTI’s generosity strengthens our ability to improve early detection and ensures more women have access to the care they need.”

The donation comes as the cancer foundation works to raise $3.2 million to enhance breast cancer screening around Saskatchewan. Along with the two mammography machines, the campaign is raising funds for a second fully equipped mobile screening unit and a vehicle to transport staff to the mobile site.

“The campaign is needed as the province prepares for the expansion of the breast screening program, which will take effect through a phased approach that will gradually reduce the age eligibility from women aged 50 years to include women aged 40 and over,” the foundation noted.

“Breast cancer affects so many women, our family included,” Partyka said in a statement.

“This donation will help to significantly increase diagnostic capacity in the province and contribute to more favourable outcomes for the women in our lives that matter to us the most!”
