The Regina Pats are making moves ahead of the 2025 and 2026 Western Hockey League drafts.
The WHL club traded 19-year-old forward Sam Oremba to the Spokane Chiefs for a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick.
A statement from Regina Pats general manager Alan Millar said the decision wasn’t an easy one.
“With 15 forwards on our roster, and injured players close to returning, we have some difficult decisions to make,” he said. “This move adds important draft capital, and creates valuable opportunities for our young players. This move also gives Sam a fresh start in Spokane, and we wish him the best.”
Oremba tallied six points (three goals, three assists) in 10 games this season with the Pats. The Regina product had 46 points (22 goals, 34 assists) in 46 games last season with the Pats, including 10 power-play goals. He began his career with the Seattle Thunderbirds. He was acquired by the Pats on Oct. 4, 2022.
The Pats have also recalled 2007-born forward Kristian Lacelle from the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA team.
Regina is off to a 5-4-1-0 start to the season.
