A massive campaign took place this week to fill the shelves of Regina & District Food Bank.
Jack 94.5 and Regina Transit teamed up on Friday to collect as many cash and food donations as they could for their Stuff the Bus campaign.
All the collected donations go towards stuffing a City of Regina Transit bus to the brim for delivery to the food bank.
Jack 94.5’s Woody said the program is very beneficial to the community. Over the last several years, the project has been able to collect enough for over 230,000 meals.
“It’s so important, the food bank, the work they do in the community — it’s neighbours feeding neighbours,”said Woody.
“A lot of people may not realize that 16,000 people a month use our food bank. That’s up 27 per cent year over year from 2023 — that’s 15,000 pounds of food a day,” said Woody.
This is the program’s fifth year operating in the Queen City, and Jack 94.5’s Sherri said that it’s only been getting bigger with time.
“It’s been growing year over year. We have great business partners that make big donations. People gather up food at their workplaces, which is really cool to see as well,” said Sherri.
The food bank’s list of most wanted food items included canned soups and stews, whole grain pasta and cereals, canned vegetables, pasta sauces, rice, beans, and proteins.
The total amount of donations in 2024 will be announced on Tuesday.
