Saskatoon and Regina both have new mayors, and it’s a trend that continued across much of Saskatchewan on Wednesday night.
Here are the mayoral race winners for each Saskatchewan city, according to the unofficial results:
Estevan
Outgoing mayor Roy Lidwig announced he would not be seeking re-election in Estevan after 30 years in municipal politics. Anthony Sernick is expected to take over after securing 1,254 votes.
Humboldt
Rob Muench will once again serve as mayor in Humboldt, winning with 988 votes. He previously held the office from 2016 to 2020.
Lloydminster
Gerald Aalbers ran unopposed to be Lloydminster’s mayor, he will now serve his third straight term.
Martensville
There’s no change in the Martensville mayor’s office. According to the unofficial results, Kent Muench received 966 votes in a landslide victory over challenger Travis Sorenson, who received 181 votes.
Meadow Lake
Meadow Lake residents are still waiting to learn who will be serving as the city’s mayor. The results of the election in Meadow Lake are expected to be made public on Thursday morning.
Melville
There’s a new mayor in Melville. Joe Kirwan won the race with 837 votes, well ahead of Maria Cole-Gayle, who netted 323 votes in the unofficial results. Walter Streelasky, who had served as the city’s mayor for 18 years, decided not to run again this time around.
Moose Jaw
James Murdock will be taking over as mayor in Moose Jaw, winning a landslide victory with 5,437 votes. Incumbent Clive Tolley, who was elected in a 2021 byelection, finished third.
North Battleford
Kelli Hawtin has been elected mayor in North Battleford. Hawtin is the first woman to be elected as the city’s mayor.
Prince Albert
After 12 years in office, Greg Dionne will no longer be Prince Albert’s mayor. Bill Powalinsky received more than half the votes, beating Dionne by more than 1,500 votes.
Regina
In the Queen City, incumbent Sandra Masters was unseated by Chad Bachynski, who secured 31 per cent of the vote.
Saskatoon
Incumbent Charlie Clark decided not to run again after two terms in office, and former councillor Cynthia Block won a landslide victory to serve as the Bridge City’s first-ever female mayor.
Swift Current
There’s no change in the Swift Current mayor’s office, as Al Bridal won by acclamation.
Warman
Gary Philipchuk will continue to serve as Warman’s mayor. He is set to begin his second straight term after no ran against him for the position.
Weyburn
Weyburn’s mayor Marcel Roy is out after an eight-year run. He lost his seat to Jeff Richards.
Yorkton
Yorkton will also have a new mayor, with Aaron Kienle defeating incumbent Mitch Hippsley. According to the preliminary results, Kienle secured 62.29 per cent of the vote. Hippsley was elected as a councillor in 2016 and was elected mayor in 2020, while Kienle served on council from 2016 to 2020.
