The snowy weather might not be the best news for those who have a flight scheduled.
There are flight delays in Saskatoon and Regina, but it is not clear if those are due to the weather.
Regina Airport CEO James Bogus explained the importance of being prepared, especially on a day like today.
“Any time there is inclement weather, there’s always a chance of cancellations, and that’s why it’s so important to make sure you sign up for your appropriate flight statuses.”
Bogus said the best thing to do is when you check into your flight, provide the airline with a cell phone number or your email.
“What they’ll do is, they will basically notify you in real-time of any changes to your flight status.”
Areas in eastern Saskatchewan, Regina and Saskatoon can expect to see another 10 to 15 centimetres throughout the day Tuesday according to Environment Canada meteorologist James Colangelo.
This is on top of the four to five cm that fell overnight.
While he said there are boots on the ground around the clock working to keep the runways safe, it’s not always enough.
“The challenge is Mother Nature doesn’t always agree, and if we have low cloud cover or significant storm events. Sometimes those planes can’t operate even when the runways are clear of snow and ice.”
Bogus also asks people to be patient when they head to the airport, especially with the quickly arriving holiday season.
“Obviously, with the Christmas season right around the corner, we’re going to see a nice influx of travellers, but that also means longer lines,” he said.
“Please remember, everyone is trying their best here at YQR and in the airport, you’re travelling to, so please treat them with kindness, and you can expect the same back to you.”
