Regina jury finds chiropractor guilty of one count of sexual assault

A Regina jury has found a chiropractor guilty of one count of sexual assault.

Ruben Adam Manz, 49, was acquitted on five additional counts of the same charge, and a mistrial was declared on one additional count after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

The chiropractor was accused of touching the breasts of seven of his female patients over a decade-long span of time, while he was working on their necks. He testified that he would always seek consent from his patients, but the Crown argued that the women could not be mistaken about what they felt.

“The actions described could not be categorized as a necessary part of the treatment sought by the victims,” the Regina Police Service said in a news release when the charges were laid.

His case will return to court next Tuesday to set a sentencing date.
