Three Saskatchewan pop culture trivia buffs made their TV debut this week on new game show Pop Culture Jeopardy, and turned in a winning performance.
The show, hosted by Saturday Night Live comedian Colin Jost, takes a bit of a different approach to the original Jeopardy recipe — all the categories devoted to the pop culture genre and contestants play in three teams of three instead of individually.

Mason Gardiner was one of the team members proudly representing Saskatchewan. He explained to 980 CJME how their Jeopardy appearance unfolded.
“Imagine this. You have three friends that play on a (recreational) dodgeball team. We go to pub trivia and have a good time. And the three of us, we’re vibing; we’re having a good time.
“Then the next day, we’re served with an Instagram ad from Jeopardy saying we are looking for teams of three for a new show called Pop Culture Jeopardy. It’s airing on Amazon Prime Video. Take this test, and then if you pass it, we’ll move on to the application,” said Gardiner.
He said the decision to do the test was a no-brainer.
“So we’re like, ‘why the heck not? Let’s go for it.’ And fast forward to a two-month casting process and after that we’re flown to LA to be on the show,” he said.
Gardiner said that they chose Queen City Kidz as the team’s name as a homage to their roots and their home city of Regina.
“Being three kids from Regina, we really wanted to represent not just Regina and Saskatchewan, but knowing that they were making some big changes to include Canadian teams, that was really a huge honour for us,” said Gardiner.
The team won by taking the Final Jeopardy round and will advance to the quarter finals of the show, which offers a $300,000 grand prize. New videos of the 40-episode show are available on Wednesdays on Amazon Prime Video.
