Police are searching for a 29-year-old man who escaped from the minimum security unit of the Saskatchewan Penitentiary on New Year’s Eve.
According to Correctional Service Canada, Glen Frederick Richard Halkett was found to be missing during the 9:30 p.m. count on December 31 at the federal prison in Prince Albert.

According to the correctional service, Halkett was serving a sentence of two years and nine months for charges including break-and-enter with intent, motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, obstruction, and possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
“Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Glen Fredrick Richard Halkett is asked to contact the police,” Correctional Service Canada said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
“CSC will investigate the circumstances of this incident and is working with the police to locate the offender as quickly as possible.”
Halkett was described as five-foot-eight in height, weighing 168 pounds. He has a fair complexion, brown eyes, black hair, and tattoos on his neck and beneath his left eye.
According to the RCMP, officers in Little Red River, near Prince Albert, spotted Halkett behind the wheel of a vehicle on New Year’s Day.
“(Officers) activated their emergency lights and approached the vehicle. It accelerated and sped past the police vehicle, striking the side of it. It then fled. The officers were not injured. The police vehicle was damaged,” the RCMP explained in a statement.
“Officers continued to search for Halkett. The suspect vehicle was later located, but Halkett was no longer with it.”
According to the RCMP, in addition to a charge of escaping lawful custody, Halkett is now facing additional charges of flight from peace officers, dangerous driving, and driving while prohibited.
“Saskatchewan RCMP is actively working to locate him and arrest him on these warrants,” the Mounties noted.
“If you see Halkett, do not approach him.”
