Saskatchewan’s economy created 14,000 jobs in 2024 while the province’s unemployment rate sat at 5.5 per cent, well below the national average of 6.7 per cent.
According to figures from Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate was the third lowest among all provinces in the year gone by, while setting an all-time record for employment with 606,200 people making up the workforce. Saskatchewan also set a record for female employment in 2024, with 286,600 women working across the province.

Jim Reiter, Saskatchewan’s deputy premier and minister of immigration and career training, said the numbers speak to the strength of the provincial economy.
“Saskatchewan is experiencing significant job growth, which is a direct result of the confidence job creators have in our economy,” Reiter said in a statement.
“The opportunities being created by a strong economy means more people are living and working in Saskatchewan than ever before.”
The health care and social assistance sector grew by 11,200 jobs last year, the province reported, while the construction sector added 6,000 new jobs. The forestry, fishing, mining, oil and gas sector also saw gains in 2024, adding 2,500 jobs.
